I'm not buying it!
- I'm not buying that we are in any sort of trouble. This is an 82 game season. Every team in history of the game that goes on to win the Cup has ups and down. For example, check out the Penguins last season. They fired Michael Therrien in favor of Dan Bylsma and went on a run that ended in a Championship season. Its an 82 game season. Up and downs happen. When this team plays no one can beat them (i.e.: March 5th vs Vancouver)
- (I know JimmyC is going to disagree) I'm not buying that we are a soft team. We have plenty of muscle. Eager, Burish, Ladd, Buff, Brouwer, Fraz all can bring a physical edge to there respective games. As far as I'm concerned we haven't seen the Dustin Byfuligen we saw in last years playoffs this season. Maybe he's saving it. God damn, I hope he is saving it. They have proved it when they needed to. They are tough enough to play with anyone. Do they have a Grim Reaper? No, but they don't need a one either.
- I'm not buying this team doesn't have another level. This team is in cruise control. They are picking up points at will. Even today they got a point. They know that when the time comes, about mid-April, they will need to raise it up another level. Its a dangerous thing not playing to your potential for a period of time because when you reach for that next level maybe you can't get to it. I think they can and that's where the experience of last years playoff run will come in handy.
- I'm not buying Soupy will be out for the season. If he's back in two weeks I wouldn't be shocked. I doubt it will be two weeks but I honesty believe he will be ready for the playoffs. With him out, Johnsson is going to have to step up and he will. He was a 25 minute a game player in Minnesota. There is no reason to believe he can't play 21, 22 minutes a game like Soupy has.
- I'm not buying Cullimore will be called up. End of that story. He'll be part of the playoff taxi-squad and that's it. Another body for practice. I doubt Q will even let him get near a game jersey.
- I'm not buying that this shitty weekend is a sign of things to come. This weekend is a reality check. This weekend is proof that you can't just play part of a game. You have to give a full 60 minute effort. This problem will be fixed. Against the Flyers there were 3 goals scored on missed assignments and against the Capitals there was a full two minute 5 on 3. Missed assignments can be fixed and a couple accidental high sticks is something that is just going to happen from time to time. However, Q is right. You get a goal on a 5 on 3, you most likely win the game. If there was no 5 on 3, we probably win today's game. However, I think it was an important loss. A loss against Washington is more of a teaching tool then the boys pulling out a W. Plus its something they can get pissed off about.
- I'm not buying that there is anything to panic about. Through 68 games this season, we are 44-18-6. That is not a fluke. You don't get a record like that by it being a fluke. Everyone here is panicing over spilled milk. Relax. There are 14 games left to figure things out. Everybody take a chill pill and have a beer (deth, that's enough beer - have a pepsi).
- I am buying that everything will be okay. 16 wins after April 11th is the important thing. Not a crappy weekend in the middle of March.
